Major General Abdel Fattah KATO served in various positions with the Egyptian Air Forces. He received B.S.C. in aviation and Military science, a Master’s degree in Military Science and a Telecommunications Diploma. In 1995, Kato became the Director General of the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority (ECAA) and then the Chairman & CEO of the Egyptian Holding Company for Airports & Navigation. In 2002, he was selected to be EGYPTAIR Holding Chairman & CEO.
Kato was the leader of initiating corporatization of Egypt’s civil aviation sector. This initiative moved the responsibility for the provision of air navigation services and the management of most of Egypt’s airports from governmental civil service departments to corporate organizations that follow a commercial model. As the first chairman of EGYPTAIR after restructure, his main focus was to modernize EGYPTAIR as a holding company with six subsidiaries then. He managed to improve customer service and introduce industry best practices.
During his tenure at the ECAA, he created a technologically modern air traffic management system and enhanced its aviation safety oversight to ensure that Egypt is in accordance with international standards and recommended practices (SARPs). He promoted the establishment of the Arab Civil Aviation Commission to coordinate aviation safety and security activities among the Arab states.
Kato held as many position as; Strategic and Business Development Aviation Consultant ,Board member of Flight Safety Foundation, Lecturer in Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport, Head of air transport committee in Scientific Research Academy and Head of air transport committee National Specialized Councils.
