Aviation Safety & Sustainability Conference, Beyond Compliance

Themed “Moving beyond Compliance to Excellence and Ultimately Sustainable Aviation Safety through Good Governance’’, Alsafwa Aviation Association has held the Aviation Safety & Sustainability Conference in Cairo, Egypt under the auspices of H.E Minister of Civil Aviation of Egypt, Captain Hossam Kamal and sponsorship of aircraft manufacturers and airlines.

With several speakers and panelists of aviation experts in Egypt and the Middle East, the conference sessions discussed safety and sustainability-related issues such as mandatory safety standards & trends in ensuring sustainability, where operators and service providers should move beyond safety compliance to achieve best safety performance as well as the human factor. Speakers and panelists also focused on providing an overview about safety standards that help reducing fatal accidents and encourage full implementation of Safety Management System (SMS) with the aim of facilitating proactive management of safety risks.

“Participants were able to deliver to their organizations a better understanding of the need to a Safety Management System that should be initiated, maintained and continuously improved by each organization” said Hussein Massoud, Alsafwa Chairman.

“We are pleased to have aircraft manufacturers such as Airbus, Boeing and Embraer as sponsors to our event as well as renowned airlines such as EGYPTAIR. Their interest to take part in such event reflects our success in raising issues of worldwide concern and confirms we are on the track to promote the aviation industry in Egypt and the Middle East. We are looking forward to organizing our upcoming event in 2016, Aviation Security and Sustainability” emphasized Massoud.

In his speech, Minister of Civil Aviation of Egypt Pilot Hossam Kamal, referred to the industry development, the need to a progressive understanding of safety and the role of NGOs in achieving such concept. Kamal pointed out to the challenges ahead especially regarding human factor upgrade and the trend of the Ministry to achieve the ultimate use of technology and digital systems.

The Egyptian Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), not-for-profit of Alsafwa, established in 2002. Alsafwa aims to be a leading house of expertise in the field of aviation at the national, regional and international levels, drawing on the wide academic, technical, and field competencies of Alsafwa members to enhance performance of the aviation industry.
